Alghero, Fertilia, EGEA Ecomuseum

The EGEA Ecomuseum is dedicated to the memory and memory of the Julian-Dalmatian exodus, to the history of the village of Fertilia, and to its community.
The name of the museum: 'Egea', is that of Egea Haffner Tomazzoni, the famous 'Girl with a Suitcase': the face of the drama of the sinkholes and the Exodus, immortalized by an iconic and historic photograph.
Mrs. Egea Haffner attended the Ecomuseum presentation event held on February 1, 2020.
The first segment of the museum, which in the future aims to expand widely throughout the territory that hosted part of the exiled Giuliano-Dalmata community, will be the pavilion of the Former Officine di Fertilia. Located on the shore of the Calich Pond, the Ex Officine were one of the central places in the reconstruction of Fertilia after the Second World War, just in conjunction with the arrival of the exiles from Istria, Venice-Giulia and Dalmatia.

Why is it important to visit it
The EGEA Ecomuseum was created to preserve and enhance the cultural heritage - material and intangible - of the territory of Fertilia, linking its environmental elements (the Calick lagoon) with those of the urban landscape (the founding city, the buildings of industrial archeology, archaeological heritage such as the extraordinary Roman Bridge), together with the other historical testimonies of its community, such as the countless documents and images kept in archives, public and private.
