Casa Dona Maxima takes its name from the last owner, Donna Massima Orrù, or Maxima in the other variant of Campidanese Sardinian, belonging to the family of the Orrù counts, a local landed nobility. The construction dates back to the mid-16th century, by the will of the Spanish feudal lords of Quirra, who extended their possessions to the Arburese area. The house-museum, extensively renovated, has some typical characteristics of the Campidanese house such as “sa lolla” and the appurtenances that surround the perimeter walls.
The museum, opened in 1994, preserves and recalls the traditions, customs and traditions of the Sangavinese past. The museum was created precisely with the intention of keeping alive the memory of the arts and crafts of the past through rooms that offer different themes such as: the room with the archaeological finds found in the area, the history of ancient crafts presented through tools and tools of the past and the industrial history linked to the birth of the foundry.
Why it's important to visit it
The rooms on the ground floor are furnished like a 19th century Campidanese house, while the attic, once used as a cereal warehouse, is now used as an exhibition room for photographic and pictorial exhibitions. Since 2013, in the courtyard there has been the mural “Rural Civilization” created by the artists Fernando Marrocu and Antonino Pilloni.
