Uri, Santa Caterina Complex

The monument is inserted in the urban fabric of Uri.
The complex consists of a nuraghe and a village.
The nuraghe, of the complex type, includes a central tower, the keep, to which two other secondary towers have been added on the front, connected by rectilinear wall curtains that delimit a small inner courtyard.
The main tower (diameter 11.70 m; residual height 1.70 m) is built with polygonal limestone blocks, of considerable size, arranged in rows.
The entrance, with SE orientation (width m 0.75) leads into the back entrance (length m 2.00; width m 0.75/1.25), now obliterated by a staircase built in later times. The current state of the tower does not allow its internal rooms to be detected.
The bastion - made of limestone and trachyte blocks, smaller in size than the keep, and arranged in regular rows - is accessed through an entrance (width m 0.60) somewhat decentralized compared to that of the keep and followed by a short straight path (length m 1.00; width m 0.70).
The latter leads into the sub-trapezoidal courtyard (width 7.50 m; depth 2.25 m) inside which a well is located.
The tower chamber with respect to the entrance of the bastion is connected to the courtyard by a trumped and flat corridor (length 2.25 m; width 1/1.50 m): the room has an ellipsoid plan (diam. m 3.50/4.25) with a residual rise of six overhanging rows. Along the inner perimeter of the room, four small raised niches can be identified.
The tower in shape has a circular chamber (diameter 4.50 m) - without subsidiary rooms - which is preserved for a residual height of 1.20 m on two rows.
Around the nuraghe extended the village, with a well, of which some huts have been unearthed.

History of excavations
In 1996, the site was the subject of archaeological research, by Giancarlo Pes and Fabio Fiori.
