The nuraghe is in the center of the Pedrasenta plateau, in Planargia, a region of northwestern Sardinia.
The nuraghe, among the best preserved in Sardinia, is complex in type. It consists of a keep surrounded by a bastion of three towers connected by straight curtains.
The bastion (m 24.30 x m 22) is preserved for 4/5 rows on the collapse and has the entrance to the curtain of NO. The entrance leads into a corridor (length m 2) that leads to the courtyard. The latter, under the open sky, has a pentagonal plan with a curvilinear profile (m 4.50 x m 4.48; height m 3).
The bastion includes an NE shaped tower - in contact with the entrance to the courtyard - circular in plan (diameter 8.50 m; height 1.60/2.60 m) accessible from the courtyard through a corridor now interrupted (length m 1.50).
The SE tower (diameter m 8) encloses a circular chamber (diameter m 2.50). A small room (1.80 m x 2.10 m) largely obstructed by rubble can be found standing between the chamber and the keep.
The SO tower has a circular plan (diameter m 7.60) with a central chamber (diameter m 3); also in this case, a circular compartment (diameter m 2.30) accessible from the bastion through a trapezoidal corridor (length m 1.40; width m 0.80) is spared between the chamber and the keep.
The keep, almost in contact with curtain S (diameter 11.00 m x 11.20 m; height 12.35/7.30 m), is built with regular rows of large blocks, processed with greater care in the upper parts. The wall covering in the last rows interrupts the inclination to become vertical.
The entrance to the keep, oriented to N/NE and now underground (height 0.40 m), is surmounted by an lintel equipped with a saw in the lower face and an exhaust window. It leads into a stromed corridor (length m 3.80) (width m 1.00/1.15/1.35), with an angular roof that grows in height towards the room (height m 1.50 to m 3).
The circular chamber (diameter 4.30 m), with an ogival cover without the closing plate (height 5.80 m), has a polygonal niche (depth m 1.50; width m 1.00/1.50; height m 1.60 above sea level), while showing a d., raised by m 2.50 above the current floor, the entrance to the spiral stairwell that leads to the upper floor.
The room on the first floor was also accessed (and accessed) from the outside, through a window made 6.30 m above the ground and decentralized from the vertical of the entrance. The opening, with a rectangular light (width 0.60 m; height 1.04 m), is arched and equipped with an exhaust vent.
The window leads into a trumped door (length m 3) (width m 1.30/1.45; height m 2.50/3.00) that leads into the circular chamber with the “tholos” still intact (diameter m 3.40; height m 4.25).
History of the excavations
The nuraghe has been known since the Angius was mentioned in the Casalis and Taramelli “Dictionary” in the archaeological map.
