Sindia, Tomb of the Giants by Furrighesu

Sindia, Tomb of the Giants by Furrighesu

Sindia, Tomb of the Giants by Furrighesu

The burial is located on the top of a relief with extensive domination over the surrounding area, in Planargia, a region of northwestern Sardinia.
The tomb belongs to the category of tombs of giants with a burial compartment and exedra in rows. The tomb with semicircular exedra and burial chamber is preserved of the monument.
The grave body, oriented to the south and apsed in the rear profile (length m 6.90; width m 4.90; height m 2.38), encloses the rectangular burial corridor (length m 5.45; width m 1.00/1.05; height m 1.60) in an ogival section: the walls are formed by five basic orthostats, worked and slightly inclined inwards, on which four rows of boulders rest in focus until they meet at the center of the compartment. The headboard side is closed by four blocks - well worked and decreasing in size towards the top - that are still superimposed. The exedra hemicycle partially preserves the right wing (length 4.85 m; height 1.94 m), with four blocks still “in situ”, while of the left wing there are only two boulders of the rear wall and others lying on the ground.
At the center of the exedra, the trapezoidal entrance opens (width m 0.50/0.56; height m 0.48), made of well-worked blocks on which the lintel rests, in a rearward position, with a residual slab above it (length m 1.88; thickness m 0.54).
Near the hatch, in the middle of other blocks, there is a trapezoidal plate (width 0.72/0.32 m; height 0.74 m;) with rounded corners, equipped with a circular maneuvering cavity (cm 13 x 14; depth cm 3).
The tomb dates back to the recent Medium-Bronze Age.
A short distance away are the Furrighesu nuraghe and a dolmen.
