This town of Barbagia is striking for the extraordinary interest of its territory, rich in history, culture and traditions. But it is the historic center, characterized by shale stone houses, built following the winding of the city streets, that is the real peculiarity of Seui.
Along the central Via Roma you arrive at Casa Farci, where the writer and illustrious politician Filiberto, co-founder of the Sardinian Action Party and a fraternal friend of Emilio Lussu, was born. You can visit his studio, with the library, where his books and those of other greats such as Grazia Deledda and Antioco Casula known as “Montanaru” remain.
The individual rooms house the tools of the most representative activities of the Seuese community, which the population donated to the Municipality in thousands of copies and which are the testimony of the production and consumption system of the past.
The activity of collecting objects has been accompanied by the purchase of precious documents dating back to past centuries and of photographic and audiovisual material.
The criterion chosen for the arrangement of the finds, within the museum, was based on themes and crafts. The material on display, in fact, is part of Seui's traditional activities; this is how we find the tools of the farmer “su massaiu”, the bricklayer “su maistu de muru”, the carpenter “su maistu de linna”, the shepherd “su erbegargiu-crabargiu” and the blacksmith “su Ferreri”, with the reconstruction of a forge from the 1920s.
Other documentation, of some interest, comes from emigrant families, who created the unusual section dedicated to emigration. Among the material on display, it is important to remember a document by the Bissiri brothers who devised, in the United States, a device that can be defined as the ancestor of the cathode ray tube.
The museum has a wealth of about seven thousand objects, but only a thousand have found the right place.
In 1987, part of the material was exhibited in Milan, at the headquarters of the “Triennale of the World of Work”, arousing great interest among visitors.
Why it's important to visit it
The guided tour allows you to deepen a journey where, the pieces on display, represent the historical, artistic and cultural heritage produced by the entire community over the centuries. The exhibition, mainly on the floor or on the wall, contains some really important objects. Among these, wooden presses, for pomace, from the end of the seventeenth century built on a fourteenth century model and two asine millstones stand out, one with a trachyte tank and the other in wood.
