Sassari, Historical Museum of the “Sassari” Brigade

Sassari, Historical Museum of the “Sassari” Brigade

Sassari, Historical Museum of the “Sassari” Brigade

The Museum is located on the ground floor of the “La Marmora” Barracks. It is a structure built at the end of the 19th century, where an ancient Aragonese castle stood. It is dedicated to the history and memory of the Sassari Brigade, a tactical unit recruited on a regional basis and a unique example for its compactness, selflessness and military value demonstrated during the operations of the First World War (1915-18). War that cost Sardinia about 13,000 dead and which earned the Brigade very significant awards. This value was justified in the feeling of strong solidarity and ethnic pride established within the troops and in the very close relationship that was established between the troops themselves and the officers, among whom Emilio Lussu and Alfredo Graziani emerged in a particular way. Within the museum itinerary, which displays cards, documents, relics, exhibits, uniforms and photographs, the natural scale reconstruction of a trench of the type used during the military operations that involved the Brigade is particularly suggestive.

Why is it important to visit it
To learn more about the theme of the Great War and the contribution made by Sardinia to National Unity. The photographic documentation, the collection of vintage weapons and uniforms, the relics that belonged to the legendary figures of the Sassari Brigade represent the highlight of the collection.
