The Palazzo Infermeria San Pietro is located in the historic center of Sassari, the result of the union of different buildings developed in different historical periods. The original nucleus dates back to the first half of the 17th century and was expanded in the 18th century. The building was intended for the care of the sick and the poor and was entrusted to the Observant Franciscan Friars of Saint Peter of Silki. In the 19th century, the Infirmary passed from the management of the convents of Saint Peter to the Carmelite Fathers. In 1866, the City decided to allocate the building and the garden as the headquarters of the Kindergarten. There is no information on the original configuration of the garden. The complex includes a back garden, completely surrounded by lots of other properties. The garden area can be divided into two macro-areas: a planted part, the actual garden, and a paved part that can be defined as a courtyard. The planted macro-area is a green space accessible through a staircase inside the building. It looks like a small garden arranged in squares, highlighted by gravel paths. It is a simple garden, with a few citrus trees, flowers and bulbs scattered all around, rich in vegetation. There are some wisteria and plumbago vines.
Interesting aspects
This is a space rich in vegetation despite its small size. Some trees have probably been around for some time, while others are more recently planted. A wisteria creeper frames, like a pergola, the crossing point between the garden and the courtyard.
