Ozieri, Nuraghe Burghidu

The monument stands on a rocky outcrop with a wide visual domain over the plain of Ozieri.
The complex (quadrilobed) monument includes a main tower to which four secondary towers connected to N and E by rectilinear curtains have been added, while the wall structure connecting to the O is curvilinear.
The building is built with squared trachyte blocks arranged in regular rows.
Of the bastion, there is only one rear view tower (the NO one, height 5 m), with independent access, which has the second floor rise.
It was connected to the next tower, which was destroyed like the third, by a narrow tunnel.
The keep, with three floors (height 14 m), is accessed from the first floor through the gap caused by the collapse of the front of the monument. The tower has two rooms connected by a spiral staircase.
The room on the ground floor, intact but significantly buried, is accessible by going downhill through the stairwell and the entrance; this has a large niche.
The room, made with trachyte blocks, well worked and arranged on regular courses, has a floor plan interrupted by the entrances to three niches arranged in a cross.
The room on the first floor (diameter 3.20 m; height 5.00 m) also appears intact, without subsidiary rooms, while few remains of the second-level room are preserved at the top.

History of excavations
The nuraghe was restored in 1967 by the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Sassari and Nuoro.

How to get
on the SS 597 from Sassari to Olbia, turn at the intersection with the SS 132 from Ozieri to Chiaramonti in the direction of the latter center. Turn again at km 11.5 towards Tula. After about 600 meters, turn into the small road with a natural background on the right that, after a few gates, leads in front of the nuraghe, easily identifiable from afar.
