Luras, Dolmen of Alzoledda

Luras, Dolmen of Alzoledda

Luras, Dolmen of Alzoledda

Currently, the site is embedded in the urban fabric of the small town of Gallura: it is located in front of the municipal stadium, on the E slope of a low granite relief whose cavity it exploits.
The small dolmenic burial of Alzoledda was damaged - during the clearing work carried out for the construction of the municipal stadium - by mechanical means that probably removed the remains of the peristalite or the mound.
The dolmen has a trapezoidal chamber (length m 2.50; width m 1.40; height m 0.80) with entrance facing E. The side walls are each formed by an orthostat on which rocks rest
that regulate the installation plane of the roof. The back wall consists of a single large knife plate.
A single quadrangular slab (m 2 x 2.20 x 0.40) that protrudes 40/50 cm on the underlying walls acts as a roof. The slab has a rough and convex upper surface while the inner one is flat and well worked to ensure better support on the underlying structures.

History of excavations
In 1996, the monument was the subject of an archaeological investigation followed by B. D'Arragon.

How to get there
Shortly before Calangianus, turn south on SP 10 directly to Luras: the dolmen is located on the edge of the municipal sports field, on the road before entering the town.
