Goni, Nuraghe Goni

Goni, Nuraghe Goni

Goni, Nuraghe Goni

The nuraghe is located on a plateau that slopes over the valleys of S'Utturu and S'Idda in the SE and of Pala and Nuraxi and Riu Uvìni in N-NO.
The building, a circular mono-tower of about 10 m in diameter, adapts to the plateau, including natural rock outcrops in its basic structures. The external wall, consisting of sketched limestone blocks arranged in regular rows, is preserved for a maximum remaining height of 8.10 m. On the sides facing west and SE, at a height of 3/3.5 m above the ground, a restoration work carried out in ancient times is evident, which became necessary due to the subsidence of the walls.
The entrance to the monument (m 0.70 x m 1.40 in height), facing SE, is surmounted by an architrave (m 1 x m 0.70 x m 0.40) equipped with an exhaust window. The corridor behind, 2.5 m long, has - on the d. - the entrance to the stairwell, collapsed and adapted as a niche (five steps are still visible). The intact “tholos” chamber (height m 8), marginalized by three niches arranged in a cross, has a circular plan (diameter m 4.38). D.'s niche measures m 1.10 x m 1.60 x m 3 in height; the bottom niche measures m 1 x m 1.30 x m 3 in height; the niche of s. measures m 1.30 x m 1.36 x m 3 in height.
In the entrance wall, raised by 3.35 m from the current decking, the stairwell that led to the terrace opens (m 0.70 x m 1 in height). The staircase, with a trapezoidal section (m 0.65/0.32 x m 0.90/1.55 in height), leads to the top of the tower.

History of studies
The nuraghe has been documented since the middle of the last century.

How to get there
Right at the beginning of the town of Goni, coming from San Basilio, you take a dirt road on the left, which leads to the Dam on Lake Mulargia; you follow it for about 1 km to the first junction. At this point, turn left and continue for a hundred meters. After leaving the road, which goes away, you continue on foot up the steep side of the hill. The nuraghe, visible from afar, can be reached in fifteen minutes.
