The Giara Horse Civic Museum collects the testimonies of the country that hosts it, Genoni, focusing on the realities rooted in the historical memory of its population and preserved through material culture, work, stories, the environment.
Historical memory of a community whose journey is accompanied by the presence of the Jara horse, like a shadow that follows it without leaving it, that defines its contours and marks its path.
The layout of the museum focuses on the use of three hundred video interviews conducted with the local population, in the age group that experienced the war years.
To carry out the interviews, the local population was invited to participate, and the response was important and active. In the interviews, an attempt was made to collect objective images, avoiding influencing the interlocutor with questions that were too specific, and an attempt was made to document the sharpest memories.
The video microstories told are linked to the territory without ever being separated from the context, and give a further documentary cross-section of the history of Genoni, with an alternative museum exhibition system.
With the aim of involving even the little ones, the interviews were enriched by the contribution of a great artist, the illustrator Pia Valentinis, who, after analyzing the collected material, transferred it into illustrations. Paintings that reinforce the museum exhibition with the ambitious goal of being able to reach different sensitivities.
An important scientific contribution to the museum was made by Professor Giulio Angioni, who documented the rooms, giving a broader vision of Sardinian demoethnoanthropology, generating a dialectical relationship between local and regional, and to Dr. Marco Piras from Agris, who contributed, with his scientific assistance, to the section dedicated to the Jara horse.
With the collaboration of the RP-Sardegna onlus, the contents are also made available within the penta book, an important aid tool to facilitate the discovery of the museum by different cognitive abilities.
With the same objective of supporting different cognitive abilities, the company “Archeogeo” has created 3D reproductions of larger objects, to facilitate the manipulation of them as a whole.
