Cargeghe, Necropolis of S'Elighe Entosu

The site is located in Pedras Serradas, at the foot of the Giorré plateau; the tombs often open in limestone landslide blocks.
The complex includes at least five hypogeums excavated from isolated blocks of limestone rock.
Among the burials, tombs I and IV stand out due to the presence of architectural and symbolic elements in relief.
The first domus consists of two rooms arranged according to a “T” planimetric pattern: a semicircular anticell (width m 1.50; length cm 90) and a subtrapezoidal cell b (width m 3.75; length m 1.66/1.80) that develops transversely with respect to the previous one.
On the SE wall of the first compartment, there is a double spiral pattern set on a vertical line that branches off from a horizontal band engraved parallel to the floor (overall width cm 70; overall height cm 56; length of the horizontal lines cm 30). The symbolic elements are made in relief using the direct hammer technique.
On the ceiling, it is still possible to identify two series of parallel grooves arranged along a transverse axis with respect to that of the burial and originating from a central groove, to reproduce a double-sloped roof.
On the back wall, the entrance door to the rectangular cell opens, surmounted by a bas-relief frame. A semiellipsoidal step is spared at the base of the entrance. The second room has two seven dividers that extend into as many pilasters reproduced on the vertical walls, thus dividing the environment into three sectors.
The central one, certainly the most important, reproduces on the back wall, in a central position, an engraved false door (average width 66 cm; height 78/84 cm; depth cm 1/2). Furthermore, on the ceiling, two series of parallel engraved grooves are reproduced, to symbolize another double-sloped roof, but arranged transversely with respect to the axis of the hypogeum.

History of excavations
The necropolis has been explored since the seventies of the last century.

How to get there
Leave the town of Cargeghe and take the SP to Florinas. After 2 km, turn left on a downhill road with a natural bottom. Once the car is parked, continue on foot until you pass a mill and a stream. Continue for 300 m to an oven and continue straight ahead, then take a path to the right that leads to the necropolis of S'Elighe Entosu.
