Arbus, Alberto and Giovanni Antonio Castoldi Museum - Mineralogical Museum - Dellacà Diorami Collection

The Alberto and Giovanni Antonio Castoldi Museum collection is located in the building of the former Geological Office and collects part of the treasure owned by the Sanna-Castoldi family. The engineer Alberto Castoldi was director general of the Montevecchio mines starting in 1877. A unique collection divided into various sections that includes: objects for men's use, archaeological finds, traditional Sardinian jewelry and objects for women's use.
The Mineralogical Museum - Diorami Dellacà Collection are located in the building of the former Foresteria di Montevecchio. The Museum has a rich collection of minerals that mostly derive directly from the Montevecchio mine. Some minerals, on the other hand, have been extracted in other mines in Sardinia or come from other parts of Italy and from abroad.
The wonderful Dellacà collection presents the Dioramas that reproduce mining life in different periods. The visitor is accompanied on an exciting journey into the mining world thanks to an educational itinerary specially designed to intrigue and fascinate him. The museum was set up at the former Foresteria di Montevecchio next to the Mineralogical Museum. The Foresteria, built in 1930, was used as accommodation by engineers and mine managers: spacious rooms, airy entrance loggias and decorative equipment typical of nineteenth-century urban residences in large cities. In 2001, the Foresteria became the property of the Municipality of Arbus. Inside there is also the SANNA-CASTOLDI Historical Archive, which can be consulted with the authorization of the Archival Superintendence of Sardinia.
