Since 1899, when for the first time a camera focused its lens on Sardinia on the occasion of the visit of the Royal Savoy, countless documentaries, films, newsreels and television reports have portrayed the face of the Island and its profound changes, its dramas and its conquests, its landscapes and its traditions. A great audiovisual heritage that the Region looks at with particular interest, promoting cataloguing, digitization, recovery and enhancement of documents, mostly from the archives of the RAI, the Istituto Luce, the ESIT and the Higher Regional Ethnographic Institute of Nuoro, fundamental for Sardinian demological documentation. Other important contributions are made available by institutions, bodies, local radio and television broadcasters and individuals.
