Villanovaforru, Monte Granatico

The building, which currently houses the civic archaeological museum of Genna Maria, is located in the heart of the historic center and faces the parish church in the most important public space.
It is a sober building dating back to the end of the nineteenth century that is spread over two floors, vertically punctuated by pilasters and with symmetrical openings compared to the main entrance. The restoration of the building, due to the architect Roberto Badas, has allowed the tourist and economic takeoff of the community.
The interior, in fact, is now used as an archaeological museum set up mainly with the precious finds of the Nuragic village of Genna Maria, excavated by the archaeologist Enrico Atzeni from 1969 onwards. The most significant room consists of the double-volume central room, once reserved for the accumulation of wheat for the entire community. Almost all rooms have exposed stone walls.
Today, the building has been expanded with the aggregation of some traditional houses, renovated for the setting up of temporary exhibitions.

How to get
to get to Sanluri, leave the SS 131 and turn at the intersection with the SP 52 to Villanovaforru. Monte Granatico is in the village.
