The park of San Sisinnio develops around the homonymous country church, in a hilly position not far from the town of Villacidro, and constitutes a landscape of strong identity value for the local community. The San Sisinnio complex represents a knot of long historical continuity, in which the religious dimension and the landscape are intertwined. The country church, documented in the sources and in the protection reports as a construction of a seventeenth-century plant with subsequent transformations, was traditionally linked to celebrations in honor of the holy martyr. The hilly position and the presence of a group of centuries-old olive trees have favored the sacredness of the place and its identification as a community space for worship and encounter. Cultural interest was formally recognized with the Decree declaring an asset of cultural interest, which sanctioned the protection of the church and the environmental context. During the twentieth century, the site maintained its religious and popular function, gradually integrating with recreational and tourist uses, and today becoming a stop on the Santa Barbara Mining Trail, which contributes to the enhancement of its historical, identity and landscape value. The most important element is represented by the nucleus of centuries-old olive trees, considered to be among the most impressive in Sardinia, which gives the place a unique plant physiognomy and a character of natural monumental nature. A wooded area near the access roads has a fair number of cork specimens. The area is equipped with accessible paths and equipped spaces for parking and recreational enjoyment, while maintaining the function of a place of worship and gathering linked to religious celebrations dedicated to the saint. The entire area is bordered by fencing walls made of local stone. The whole combines naturalistic and cultural values, making the park a reference point for the landscape and for the religious and popular traditions of the Villacidrese territory. It has an irregular layout, modeled on the natural hilly shape. The country church of San Sisinnio is located in a central position, acting as a fulcrum around which the walking paths and parking spaces are organized. The absence of monumental fences or orthogonal avenues underlines the natural and spontaneous character of the property's morphology, which integrates with the surrounding agrarian and wooded landscape.
