Starting from the 16th century, the medieval Villa Templi began to transform into the dynamic town of Tempio Pausania, which reached its peak of development in the 19th century.
Among the main actors in this evolution, the family of noble knights Pes becomes the protagonist, who sees with Antonio (1629-1686) the beginning of the family's fortunes. This building, with its progressive development, up to its current extension, which makes it one of the largest in the historic center, has accompanied the history of the PES and the city since its inception. The title of Marquis of Villamarina, granted by Charles VI of Austria, was assumed by Don Francesco Pes in 1711. Since then, among others, this residence was first called Palazzo Pes di Villamarina. Among the illustrious men of the house are the Marquis Giacomo Francesco viceroy of Sardinia from 1816 to 1818 and the noble knight Don Gavino, known as “don Baignu”, priest and illustrious poet from Gallura. With Michele Pes, bishop of Ampurias and Civita (1785-1804), a first nucleus, passed to the church. The full ownership of the entire complex, used as the bishop's residence and minor seminary, was reached, with the latest acquisitions, only in 1933. The total dismissal from use, which took place in 1966, initiates, for the ancient seminary, a long period of decline. The year 2000 called the Pes palace in Villamarina - an old seminary - to a new rebirth, definitively used for cultural activities.
The collection of sacred silver and furnishings for liturgical use, the paintings and statues, the sacred vestments and the vestments for the liturgy constitute, together with the documentary and book heritage, the stable collection coming for the most part from the sacristy of the cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle. Added to this collection is the heritage of civic relevance such as the Bernardo Demuro fund and the collection of archaeological materials from the municipal territory.
The exhibition spaces are open, also through the use of the most modern technologies, to host different cultural events. The purpose of this place is to document Gallurese culture and civilization through a series of services in the light of
