Villa Caria, now known as Villa Pozzo, was built in 1927 in Art Nouveau style by the will of the dairy entrepreneur Francesco Caria. It is located in the Cappuccini district, an urban area of Sassari affected, between the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century, by a process of residential expansion. The neighborhood is characterized by the presence of single-family villas surrounded by greenery, according to suburban settlement models. The villa is located inside a pseudo-square-shaped lot, bordered by a fence. The main entrance to the complex is located on Viale Caprera. Green space plays a structuring role in the composition of the whole. The garden, in fact, surrounds the building, placing it at the center of the spatial system and configuring itself as an element of mediation between the construction and the surrounding urban fabric. It is configured as an ornamental garden, divided into two main spaces on two separate levels connected by short staircases. The first green space is raised above the floor of the villa and has a sinuous pattern, delimited by a fence that defines the margin and underlines its formal character. The second green space surrounds the villa and is organized by a circular walking path, delimited by hedges and tree-lined borders. Inside the lot there is also an architectural artifact pertaining to the villa.
Interesting aspects
Overall, the space is full of vegetation. Tall trees and hedges delimit it, ensuring privacy and an aspect of an urban oasis. The garden has flowerbeds and sinuous paths, typical of the Sassari Art Nouveau gardens of the time. The vegetation, distributed in an orderly manner near the villa, takes on a more spontaneous aspect.
