PauliLatino, Tomb of Giant Mura Cuada

PauliLatino, Tomb of Giant Mura Cuada

PauliLatino, Tomb of Giant Mura Cuada

The tomb is located in an isolated position, on the basaltic plateau of Abbasanta, in central-western Sardinia.
The burial is of the “row” type in a cyclopean work. The tomb, arranged along the SE-NO axis, with entrance to SE, is delimited on the outside by rows of basalt blocks of different sizes. The hexedra, with its concave shape, consists of rows of well-worked stones of decreasing size upwards. The entrance to the monument (m 0.47 x 0.67 in height), which opens at the center of the base row of the exedra, is surmounted by an lintel; the jambs consist of one block on each side.
Immediately after the entrance there is a small corridor ('dromos') delimited by two facing boulders. This separated the cemetery area from the burial area. The burial chamber, with a rectangular plan (m 4.50 in length x 1 in width x 1.90/2.10 in height), is closed at the rear by a slab on which smaller stones are superimposed. The masonry consists of orthostats on which rows of jutting stones rest. The floor plan, consisting of the outcropping rock, has been suitably leveled.
The tomb dates back to Middle Bronze-Recent Bronze.

History of excavations
The tomb was explored in the seventies of the twentieth century by Enrico Atzeni.
