The Liliana Cano Diffused Museum is developed in an eight-stage itinerary that crosses the urban and religious fabric of Oliena, collecting more than fifty works including murals, pictorial cycles and sculptures created by the artist between the Eighties and 2016. A heritage of great historical and artistic value that, thanks to an articulated enhancement project, is now returned to the community in an organic and fully usable form.
The museum itinerary testifies to the deep bond between Liliana Cano and the territory: many works are in fact born in direct dialogue with the local community and with the places that host them. Among the most significant interventions are the wall paintings of the Church of San Lussorio, the result of intense and lasting pictorial research. Also emblematic is the painting on panel placed in Piazza Santa Croce, commissioned in 2006 by the 1975 levy on the occasion of the celebrations dedicated to Saint Lussorio, confirming the active role of citizens in the genesis of numerous works.
Of particular note is the *Monument to Woman* (1985), one of the very rare public sculptures in Sardinia dedicated to the female figure, which represents a central moment in Cano's artistic reflection on the theme of identity and human dignity.
The route is accompanied by dedicated signs and educational panels equipped with QR codes, which allow access to a free audio guide. To support the visit, an information brochure and a 120-page bilingual paper guide, *The Roots of Color*, were also created, with texts by Davide Mariani, Artistic Director of the Diffused Museum and the Liliana Cano Archive, complete with descriptive equipment and a map of the places. The Liliana Cano Archive, which brings together the artist's scholars and family members, is chaired by the artist Igino Panzino.
Liliana Cano
Liliana Cano was born in Gorizia in 1924 and trained artistically in Turin. At the age of twenty he moved to Sardinia, a land that marked his pictorial research in a profound and lasting way. Starting in the late 1950s, his work was established for an intense figuration, characterized by vibrant colors and a strong expressive tension, in which history, myth and everyday life are intertwined in an original synthesis between tradition and experimentation.
At the end of the seventies he settled in France, where he lived and worked for about twenty years, exhibiting at important international venues, including the Grand Palais in Paris. This experience helps to further broaden his artistic horizon and to consolidate his profile on the European scene. In the nineties he returned permanently to Sardinia, continuing his business until his death in Sassari in 2021, at the age of 96.
