Olbia, Cabu Abbas Complex

Olbia, Cabu Abbas Complex

Olbia, Cabu Abbas Complex

The monument is built on the top of Mount Colbu, in a position of extensive domination over the plain and the Gulf of Olbia.
The complex includes a nuraghe, built on the highest point of the hill, and an extensive wall that surrounds the edge of the plateau.
The small nuraghe (diam. m 8.40 x 8.60; height. m 2) - made with rough granite boulders arranged in regular rows - has an arched entrance facing S (width). m 1.20) that leads to a rumbled corridor (long. m 3) on the walls of which a small niche and, for example, a staircase (of which 9 steps remain) that led to the upper floor, now disappeared, open to the upper floor.
The room, with a slightly crushed plan (diam. m 3.50 x 3.65), now soaring, has two niches facing on the walls s. and d.
Near the back wall, a truncated conical well is built 2.60 m deep lined with small stones arranged in rows.
The presence of the well and the discovery, during the 1936 excavations, of a small bronze depicting a woman with an amphora on her head, led Levi to believe that the nuraghe was actually a building dedicated to the cult of water.
The narrow plateau on which the nuraghe stands, located about 15 m above the wall, was surrounded by a circular structure of varying thickness, of which a short N-shaped stretch leaning against the natural rock is now preserved.
The curtain wall below (length. 220 mm; thick. m 4; alt. 5.10 m) - with an irregular curvilinear development that encompasses numerous rock outcrops - it is built by two walls with an internal filling of small stones. The wall structures have, in the lower part, large granite blocks, which are superimposed on the upper levels by smaller boulders.
Two entrances - open respectively to S, to the gulf, and to N, to the mountain - interrupt the path of the wall: the second entrance, protected by a rock overhang, leads into a straight corridor covered by three flat slabs (alt. m 2).

History of excavations
The site was investigated in 1936 by Doro Levi.
