The open space behind Grazia Deledda's Birthplace corresponds to the family's original home garden. The presence of a vegetable garden in this area is documented in Deleddian writing itself. In the autobiographical novel, Cosima, describing the kitchen of the house, says, in fact, that it had a window “overlooking the vegetable garden.” This reference gives the place a particular cultural and memorial value: the vegetable garden is part of Deledda's narrative heritage as a childhood setting and an integral part of her daily experience. For this reason, the area can be considered, in its own right, a literary garden, a real space that is reflected and reworked within the author's work. The Casa Natale, with its attached garden and courtyard, is located in the historic center of Nuoro, within the district of San Pietro. The building — now the Deleddian Museum dedicated to the writer — overlooks Via Grazia Deledda, while the green space develops at the back of the building. The open area consists of a small triangular paved courtyard, a porch that acts as a filter between the outside and the large internal courtyard and the actual green space. The latter is set on bare ground, without turf, and owes its recognition to the presence of two impressive monumental oak trees. There is also a historic well and a watering hole.

The birthplace of Grazia Deledda with its garden, dating back to the second half of the 19th century, is a typical example of a civil home in the wealthy Nuoro class. The building is divided into rooms on different levels, from which there was access to the internal courtyards. The two large examples of oak define the perception of the whole, generating widespread shading and creating a collected microspace, in close visual and functional continuity with the artifacts of the birthplace. Among the botanical species present, in addition to the two centuries-old oak trees, are the jujube tree, the wisteria, the strawberry tree and the vine.
