The Igea Spa historical mining archive is a private archive protected by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage since 1994.
The Monteponi Historical Mining Archive keeps documentation relating to abandoned mining companies (Società di Monteponi, Società di Montevecchio, AMMI SPA, Sogersa SPA, SAMIM SPA, SAMIM SPA, SIM SPA) starting in 1850 (with docc. from 1734) for a total of about 1000 linear meters (This documentation is accompanied by another 5 kilometers of documentation located at the deposits of Pozzo 2 Campo Pisano Iglesias, Monte Agruxiau Iglesias, in the town of Villasalto for the Su Suergiu archive, near Montevecchio in Guspecchio in Pini, and finally at the management and administrative offices of the Funtana Raminosa (Gadoni - Nu) and Sos Enattos - (Lula) mines. The technical documentation consisting of floor plans, sections of reservoirs, tunnels, wells, plants, machinery, and all the projects of industrial and civil buildings is of absolute importance. This documentation is accompanied by geo-archaeological studies accompanied by illustrative reports and technical reports, important for also describing the technical progress of the various companies.
The amount of administrative and technical-administrative documentation relating to personnel, purchases, sales, financial statements, productions, internal relations, correspondence between companies and between companies and the outside (institutions, schools, suppliers, consultants, partners, lawyers, notaries, unions, various experts, visits by technicians and personalities, etc.) is impressive.
Finally, the series concerning personnel (personnel files, registration books, accident records) that in a few lines can summarize an entire working life.
Why is it important to visit it
The historical mining archive is considered one of the most important industrial archives in Europe and without a doubt the most important industrial archive in Sardinia.
The historical mining archive, consistent with the activities in progress, organizes educational meetings with schools and associations to visit the archive, preferably in spring, summer and autumn and well in advance of the organization.
It is accompanied by a small museum section under construction and a documentary restoration center.
