The sacred well is located upstream of the town of Golfo Aranci, near the homonymous inlet, in Gallura, a region of northeastern Sardinia.
The monument — partly demolished in the nineteenth century, on the occasion of the construction of the railway station — preserves the staircase and the well chamber, of impressive proportions. It is built with regular rows of carefully processed shale, limestone and, more rarely, granite ashlars. The long straight staircase, oriented to SE and consisting of about 40 steps (length about 9.50 m; width 1.50 m; height 1.90-4.00 m), is currently enclosed by a recently built wall. The roof of the room, stepped and of particular architectural value, draws a sort of inverted staircase. The staircase leads into the well chamber, with an elliptical plan (diameter 3.00 m x 2.40 m) and with a rather slender ogive roof (height 9.29 m), now raised (originally it had to reach 11.00 m). There is no trace of the vestibule that was supposed to have preceded the monument. The monument dates back to the end of the Middle Bronze Age and was visited in the recent Bronze, the Late Bronze and the Iron Age.
History of the excavations
The temple was excavated in 1937 by Doro Levi, who gave brief information about it.

How to get there
Leave Olbia and take the Pittulongu coast road (SP 82), when you arrive at the Golfo Aranci station, continue on foot along the railway line for about 300 m: the well is located behind a low concrete wall.
