The Paleo Archeo Center (P.Ar.C.) is an innovative museum created to document and enhance the fossil and archaeological materials found in the territory of Genoni. From a paleontological point of view, Genoni can claim the presence of the Duidduru Geopaleosite, a unique example on the island for its richness and variety of fossils, as well as spectacular evidence of how Sardinia was crossed by the sea millions of years ago. The formation dates back to the first Miocene sedimentary cycle and emerges for about 50 meters. From an archaeological point of view, the Santu Antine area stands out, with the remains of a nuraghe, a Punic fortress and the nuragic well.
The museum itinerary takes place in three sections: archaeological, paleontological and educational. The archaeological section illustrates the various ages, from Nuragic to Punic to Roman, that affected the hill of Santu Antine. At the top of the hill, archaeologists investigated a 39-meter-deep nuragic well, which is illustrated by a 1:1 diorama that reproduces the bottom. In the paleontological section, on the other hand, the fossils found in the territory of Genoni are exhibited, accompanied by specific information and a general overview of the geology and history of the Earth. The largest area is dedicated to teaching, a space where theory is transformed into practice. The section, equipped with multimedia supports and scientific instruments, offers visitors, especially the little ones, the opportunity to experience what was observed in the previous rooms and to step into the shoes of the archaeologist and the paleontologist, simulating the excavation, the cleaning and conservation of the finds.
Why it's important to visit it
The Paleo Archeo Center combines history with science, combining the importance of discoveries with the knowledge of the phenomena that produced them, whether they were derived from man or from nature.
The museum has been tailor-made for schools with a large dynamic laboratory and programs modulated according to the training path.
