The Casa Porcu Satta Ethnographic Museum preserves the historical memory of Gavoi, playing a fundamental role in the conservation and enhancement of local roots. Its collections offer a privileged bridge to understand the lifestyle, culture and traditions of the ancient agricultural and pastoral communities of Sardinia.
The museum finds its ideal setting in a building of extraordinary architectural merit, once the home of Dr. Giovanni Porcu Duras — the town's leading physician for over forty years — and his wife, Donna Rosina Satta Mulas.
The museum itinerary is organized around the great themes of Sardinian identity: work and play, music and dance, mourning and celebration, up to religion and superstition. The exhibition makes use of authentic objects, accurate reconstructions and valuable examples of local craftsmanship:
- Traditional Clothing: The exhibition area allows you to admire Sardinian costumes up close, including the dress of the women's festival, the traditional male dress and the characteristic velvet suit historically worn by shepherds and farmers.
- Jewels and Amulets: This section contains about a hundred pieces in silver filigree, including precious rosaries, protective amulets, traditional buttons and accessories for Sardinian dress. The artifacts are the work of Nanni Rocca, a master goldsmith who guards and hands down, together with his son, a family silverware tradition dating back to the 19th century.
- The "Jocos" Collection: With more than 3,000 pieces, this rich collection is divided into three main thematic areas:
- Traditional toys: testimonies of an old-time creativity, consisting of objects that adults built for the little ones or that the children themselves made using the poor materials offered by the surrounding environment.
- Music: a section dedicated to traditional Sardinian instruments, which includes both those of the most archaic origin and the contemporary variants.
- Work environments: the scaled reconstruction of traditional workspaces, accompanied by a careful collection of tools related to the agro-pastoral world.

Why it's important to visit
Visiting Casa Porcu Satta does not simply mean observing a collection of objects from the past, but taking a journey into the heart of the Sardinian soul. The museum tells with authenticity the effort, the celebration, the creativity and the poetry of a community that has been able to jealously guard its identity.
