Florinas, Tomb of Campu Lontanu

The tomb, isolated in a slightly sloping terrain, is in a dominant position compared to the course of the Mannu river, at the foot of the Coros plateau, in the Sassari area, in northwestern Sardinia.
The Campu Lontanu burial has the peculiarity of reproducing the characteristics of a giant tomb.
Accessible through two entrances, it is dug inside an erratic rock of trapezoidal shape (length 7.50 m, width 4.60 m, height 3.90-2.80 m), whose height decreases significantly from the forehead to the rear side of the façade. At the SE corner today, there is a large hole, perhaps caused by recent tampering.
On the façade, oriented to NO, the curved stele (height 3.90 m) is reproduced, while the rear view, shaped in an arched profile, has a small access door (m 0.52 x 0.40) with a stone manhole equipped with a saw.
The front-stele reproduces the architectural score - drawn by a flat relief frame (width 0.30-0.50 m; thickness 8 cm) - consisting of a lower frame (height 1.90 m) and an upper bezel (height 1.40 m).
Three holes (width 0.18 x 0.30 m; depth 0.32 m) have been dug on the top of the stone, slightly set back from the edge, perhaps intended to contain as many stone pillars.
At the base of the lower panel, in a central position, there is the rectangular entrance door (m 0.50 x 1.00) that leads into a short entrance (length m 1.50) slightly downhill. The height of the small corridor is halved by the presence of a step that allows you to overcome the difference in altitude with the internal burial chamber. It is believed that at this point the manhole (m 0.50 x 0.90 x 0.15 thick) found in the corridor and today placed near the entrance was placed.
The inner compartment, trapezoidal in plan (length 5.40 m; width 1.94-0.90 m), has an inclined floor and ceiling (height 1.68-1.20 m).
At the side of the NO entrance, there is an irregular counter and a dimple (m 0.70 x 0.26 x 0.10), which can perhaps be traced back to phases of reuse.
Near the burial, ceramic materials from the Bonnanaro culture (Ancient Bronze) were found, a period to which the construction of the monument also seems to date back.

History of excavations
The tomb was excavated in 1975 by Ercole Contu and Giuseppa Tanda.

How to get there
Leave the town of Florinas, take the road to Cargeghe and, after a few hundred meters, turn to Banari-Ittiri. Shortly after passing the church of Sant'Antonio, turn left for Ittiri and continue for a few kilometers until you reach Nuraghe Corvos, pass it and turn towards Ittiri. After crossing the bridge over the river, continue for another 300 m and take the first road on the left, paved only in the first section. Once you reach the ruins of the church of San Leonardo, continue uphill and turn into a small road to the left. Walk along it for 400 m, until you cross a field on the left, in the center of which stands a limestone boulder; the tomb is dug into the rock.
