Cagliari, Museum of the Stone Industries of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sardinia

Located inside the Citadel of Museums, in the Castello district, the museum consists of two collections of prehistoric lithic objects, already belonging to the educational collections of the Laboratory of Sardinian Antiquities and Palethnology of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy. The first and most substantial collection dates back to the pre-Nuragic and Nuragic periods. It consists of a vast assortment of chipped and polished stone weapons and artifacts, mostly in obsidian and flint, from archaeological sites in the Campidano. The second collection, smaller in terms of the quantity of materials, but extremely interesting, consists of tools from the ancient Stone Age, in particular “amygdale” and from typical flint pebbles to double-sided chips, of African and Mediterranean origin.

Information on tickets and access: The museum can be visited, by appointment to be defined by email or telephone contact, within the normal opening hours of the University of Cagliari. The museum is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
