The EXMA is a multipurpose experimental center for contemporary arts and cultures, dedicated to all forms of expression: dance, music, theater and figurative arts. The center is housed in the former municipal slaughterhouse, built in the mid-nineteenth century on a project by Domenico Barbino. The main entrance consisted of a large portal decorated with a bovine protome in the center and two sheepskin protome on the sides. The slaughterhouse was active until 1966. The objective of the structure is to promote research, production, exhibition and presentation of programs, projects and works of art, while providing educational training, exchange and cultural mediation services.
Why it is important to visit it
The mission of EXMA is to promote and enhance contemporary arts as a device for civil growth, guaranteeing the community both the right of access and equality in the enjoyment of culture, with the aim of increasingly becoming a place for sociality and encounter.
The project is to place the community at the center of activities, taking cultural, social and gender differences as a value, assimilating them to connect with the “richness in diversity” of the world in which EXMA lives and operates.
