Cagliari, Bank of Naples

The building is located on the W side of Largo Carlo Felice, not far from a series of buildings that house credit institutions and other institutions.
The Bank of Naples, present in the city at least since 1820, but in different places, built the new headquarters in the former Palazzo Devoto, which underwent a profound renovation in 1935, according to a neo-Renaissance façade. This was still maintained in 1957 following the opening of Via Mameli on Largo Carlo Felice, which made it necessary to rebuild the N side of the building and the S side for the Commercial Bank.
On a base with strips of ashlar along the entire ground floor, there is a two-story building concluded by a projecting ledge. The openings have different shapes and decorations in the three levels with greater attention to the intermediate level where there are curved and broken eardrums.
On the other hand, the interior is more complex and articulated, thanks to the presence of a large octagonal hall that exploits the building at its full height: it is covered by a glass dome functional to lighting, made necessary by the structure of the same lot of land. Before the opening of Via Mameli, in fact, the building had no side openings, stretching until it overlooked Via Angioy opposite.
