Bosa, Civic Market

The building is located in the octagonal square dedicated to Vincenzo Gioberti, destined at least since the second half of the nineteenth century to connect the old city with the new expansion.
The Civic Market was built many decades after the urban expansion plan: finished in 1929, designed by engineer Antonio Baldino (1869-1949), it came into operation the following year. The main façade follows the polygonal pattern of the square and is vertically divided into three spaces by two massive, strongly projecting pillows, with disc ornaments, which rest on the base plinth. In the center is a circular opening in vulcanite, tridivided by pillars that enclose two grates on the sides and have the function of jambs for the large entrance gate. This geometric form is repeated in the four windows of the façade, which are gradually smaller, and in those that open onto the side headboards of the main body of the building. All the ornaments recall a taste linked to Art Deco. The interior of the market was built with covered porches, structured in compartments for sellers along the perimeter, and a central courtyard, tree-lined and enriched by a pool fountain. A renovation has substantially transformed the internal organization of the building, intended as a multipurpose cultural space.
