Located in the old railway station of Arzachena, the LaBenur Museum houses an interesting collection of experimental reproductions of the finds found in the archaeological sites of Arzachena, made to scale with the techniques and materials of the time.
The structure has a strong educational impact and is the result of an approach based on teaching, dissemination and experimental archeology. It is divided into two sections: an archaeological and an ethnographic. In the first, there is a prehistoric room with an introduction to the Paleolithic and Neolithic in Sardinia and a series of reproductions from Neolithic sites in the territory of Arzachena; followed by a room dedicated to the Nuragic man and one that illustrates his ceramic technology and metallurgy.
The ethnographic section houses a room with original furnishings and costumes from the late 1800s and first half of the 1900s and another room in which the interior of a typical Sardinian kitchen has been reproduced.
The exhibition system is designed with the purpose of reducing the distance between the visitor and the objects on display. The Labenur is, in fact, also a “museum to touch” where almost all the scale reproductions that are present can be taken in hand, forming a sort of tactile path. This is why it is particularly suitable for blind visitors. The sensoriality aspect can be further enjoyed by participating, upon reservation, in ceramics, prehistoric painting and stone sanding laboratories.
Why it's important to visit it
The Nuragic Age Laboratory Museum (LaBenur) is not a conventional museum: no case or window with finds to be viewed with religious respect, but a museum for everyone that tries to revive, through the exhibition, the reality of a remote time. It was created to illustrate the Nuragic Civilization in aspects related to daily life. It also houses a small ethnographic section.
