Promotion of contemporary art

The Region of Sardinia has signed the Framework Program Agreement for the “Contemporary Senses” project. The Region recognizes the value and cultural potential of contemporary art, which until now in Sardinia has lacked an adequate support and enhancement policy.
With this objective, the Councilor for Education, Cultural Heritage, Information, Entertainment, Sport, is committed to ensuring that, for the first time, Sardinia would also be among the Regions that have signed the Multiregional Framework Program Agreement for the project “Contemporary Senses - Promotion and Dissemination of Contemporary Art and the Enhancement of Architectural and Urban Contexts in the Regions of Southern Italy”.
The signing of the Framework Program Agreement was reached by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, La Biennale di Venezia Foundation, Sardinia Region, Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia, Sicily.
The will is to focus on potentially innovative initiatives in the territories, stimulate the growth of interregional pilot projects for contemporary art and support the creation of adequate skills in the management of experimental projects, at the level of regional administrations and local authorities. Activities will be carried out to promote the South, through visual arts and architecture exhibition initiatives, and relationships and relationships with international contexts will be promoted in the field of visual arts, architectural and urban development, local development, also through the creation of national and international competitions. The signatories of the APQ aim to arrive at the identification of a method shared between the ministries and regions involved, which favors the planning, programming, management, implementation and control of interventions and projects to be carried out for contemporary art. An attempt will then be made to promote the processes of horizontal integration - between Regions - and vertical - between territories - to realize institutional cooperation.
The total funding allocated to the APQ is 7 million euros for the 2006-2008 edition of the “Contemporary Senses” project and 3 macro-areas of intervention have been identified.
System Actions with a loan of 3 million 196 thousand euros for coordination, management, support and communication activities. For the promotion through exhibition initiatives of architecture, visual arts and design, 1 million 440 thousand euros have been allocated. For the “Programs of the Senses”, 2 million and 400 thousand euros have been allocated divided between the training activities of local technicians for the activation and promotion of quality policies in the architectural and urban planning fields (600 thousand euros) and to support education and the activation of calls for tenders to achieve good architectural design quality (1 million and 800 thousand euros).
The Regions have claimed greater decision-making capacity, asking to be able to participate, in all phases, in design choices that concern support, communication, training, competitions and not exclusively in meetings that concern their territorial planning.
