Antonio Cossu

Antonio Cossu is a writer, author of novels and journalist, and at the same time a cultural animator, to whom we owe the foundation of the literary magazine “The Viper's Cave”.
Born in Santu Lusha in 1927, he attended the Higher School in Oristano and later obtained a degree in Literature at the State University of Milan. Get in touch with Adriano Olivetti, a cultured and enlightened industrialist who created the Community Movement in Ivrea. Fresh from this precious experience, he returned to the island and in 1959 he became socially engaged in the territory. In the same year he joined the Sardinian Region as an official of the regional programming center, then a real hotbed of intelligence and political passion. In 1967 he published his first novel, “The Children of Pietro and Paolo”, in Italian. In 1969, his other great novel entitled “The Redemption” followed. But being a writer alone is not enough for him. In fact, in 1975, he founded “The Viper's Cave”, more than a magazine, a cultural laboratory dedicated to interior areas, local cultures, popular poetry, the Sardinian language and its relations with the national language and with the minority languages of the European regions. And in 'Limba' he published two volumes: 'Mannigos de Memoria' (1984) and 'A Tempos de Lussurzu' (1985), also translated into Catalan. The last novel (in Italian), “The Vanished Dream”, is from 2002 and is full of bitterness and pessimism. He was also a talented journalist, one of the founders of the magazine “Il Bogino”, and collaborator of “Il Solco”, “The Sardinian Union”, “Ichnusa”, “Sardinian Nation”, “Community”, “Issues”, “Prospects”, “Il Bimestre”.
