The protection of geographical indications for artisanal and industrial products. Sardinia and the opportunities

Theconference “The protection of geographical indications for artisanal and industrial products” will be held on 20 March 2025 at 2.30 pm in the conference room of Sa Manufacture, in Cagliari. Sardinia and opportunities” dedicated to deepening the topic of so-called NON-AGRI GIs (Reg. EU 2023/241).

In fact, starting from December 1, 2025, it will be possible to submit an application for the registration of an IGP for artisanal and industrial products.

This will make it possible to extend to non-agri-food productions the same protections provided for the agri-food sector, allowing local and regional territories and productions to be promoted internationally.

The objectives of the meeting are: present the tools and services made available by institutions at regional level in support of crafts,
illustrate the benefits of PGI, also as an anti-counterfeiting strategy,
provide a detailed picture of the provisions of the EU Regulation for the purpose of recognizing PGI protection for non-agri-food products

The meeting, initially scheduled for last December 12, was created with the purpose of providing practical-operational indications to facilitate the creation of groups or associations of producers interested in activating this new possibility of protection and enhancement, to be considered as a great opportunity to protect the productions of artistic craftsmanship, typical and traditional of Sardinia from counterfeiting and to give new impetus to the sector.

In the second part of the meeting, there will be a thematic session entitled “We in the mirror: how do we tell our cultural identity? ” during which the video Heir Body will premiere: an authorial audiovisual work lasting about 5 minutes that, using symbolic language, recounts the historical and cultural bond that nourishes the artisanal productions of Sardinia.
